Well this will be the first post I've ever made on my Blog and I don't want to bore all you wonderful people with lots of detailed rubbish, I basically want to talk about some of the photographic activities I have been getting up to in the last couple of weeks. Im currently in the middle of a technical workshops project and things are slowly beginning to heat up as people start to realize how rapidly the deadline is approaching.
Recently i have been shooting a lot of low-key images in the studio with a skilled local Disc Jockey; DJ Tempah. I met him last year whilst doing some promotional work for a nightclub chain in Bournemouth and decided to ask him whether he would be interested in a street location shoot, he responded positively inviting me to some club scenes around Bournemouth town introducing me to his culture and lifestyle. After shooting him for a few weeks i fell in love with a new contemporary music genre; Funky House. My favorite artists/producers are the "Crazy Cousinz" and I ended up seeing them at my summer ball turning out to be one of the best live acts I've ever seen!
Technically I found shooting in night clubs there were two approaches you could either go about. The first one is a more experimental technique using longer exposures bringing out more colours and atmosphere, during exposure I would use a soft flash to bring my main subjects into focus. i found this method to be quite risky sometimes so this is why I would sometimes use the safer approach using the flash as the main light source with a cheeky diffuser attached on the end of my flash unit. The safer method means i am guaranteed sharply focused outcomes but at the same time they can just be a bit flat/boring.
Bellow is another image I recently shot on medium format with a 120mm bad boy film. I have learnt a lot more about positioning of the hair light not letting to much spill occur and letting the subject blending with the back drop.

(Are you giving me Hassle Blad?)
